another journey back in time takes us to the year 2003 again.
martin donath, using his moniker punkteins, presented his ?untitled e.p.? as our 27th release in december that year.
this e.p. contains three hypnotic minimal tracks which are evolving and revolving and almost immediately capturing one?s attention. it is an early proof for the outstanding quality and artistry of his music as both a studio and a live musician. you can find martin today (amongst other sites and labels) of course on the brilliant netlabel stadtgruen and through his own homepage.
a timeless e.p. and surely a true gem in the back catalogue of the tonAtom netlabel.

you might want to play it LOUD?

the back catalogue of a netlabel can be compared with the most remote place in your flat where you store some of your favorite cds. there is great stuff, but you haven?t listened to these tracks far too long, because you have far too long not visited the release overview.
but you should? many netlabels, even nowadays disfunct ones, have released great stuff years ago. and they should be preserved and re-discovered. this is the first post trying to tackle this task at least for the tonAtom netlabel?.:
in summer 2003 store (being a netaudio veteran himself running the awesome retinascan label) contributed his ?rock deferens? e.p. release. electric guitars and electronics blended together forming elaborate rhythms and atmospheres. far off from dub boredom and tedious techno house he created a sound much closer to indie bands than to traditional electrics.
revisited today, seven years later (imagine that), this record is just still fresh and inspiring. four great songs of their own origin and sound. and it is still true what I wrote within the short release notes:
?acoustic and calm. hypnotic and earthy. guitar, drums and bass guitar go through a reincarnation as samples. a new facet of the work of this fascinating artist. deep and beautiful.?

The team of the cologne commons festival are currently busy creating an event even better than the one last year. So you should be there and meet all those outstanding, ceative, really nice and shareful netaudio people from cologne and the rest of the world.
And meet tonAtom as well

so, spring is upon us with chirping birds and new dawn that is here to greet us to the premiere of Twin - the first tonAtom release from South Korea. however, despite the modulating sunbeams, it might still be bitterly cold, especially at night.
with reference to his release, Fescal presents the first three tracks exhibiting shadowy sketches, defying customary song writing paradigms that leave the tracks as the acoustic equivalent to movie stills. the beautiful ?asteroidea? is the first in a row of three full-length tracks, flattering our ears, followed by the crackling-lubricious ?sunday morning? and culminating in the ?granular hymn? (if this term does not exist yet, it has to be coined now) ?resorption?.
the productions of Twin are relaxed, palatial and precise - requiring a focused ear, who is in turn rewarded with an immense set of different moods, colours, timbres and settings. there are almost no percussive elements, but you won?t miss them, because they are not needed even when you are actively looking for them. instead, visions of nobly woven atmospheric river emerge, that often de-liquifies every now and then into river of granular ice.
For those looking to fie Fescal?s artistry in a particular class or group, you might stick the general label: ambient to this EP which, would be similar to labeling a moonlight gourami with the label? animal.

30 seconds of Mec Allemand live (performing the Sternenspringer remix version ?.) don?t miss the ?funny guy? outside the window?.
recommended blog by nq, artist of ?progressive form?, kitty-yo, audiobulb and (of course) tonAtom fame.
another teaser?. mec allemand live soon?

it seems like mec allemand is entering the hotter phase for the upcoming live shows
http://www.wnur.org/ a weekend that starts with being played on a chicago radio station ?. great! thanks to m50. and if you have a chance just right now, tune in at their site ! nice selection of music (even without me :) )
a nice pile of virtual demo cds is lying on my virtual desktop? weekend can come
Have a look at the Mec Allemand website and find out about live gigs, videos and more?.
for those speaking german or able to use google translate?.
some websites disappear for weeks and come back all new (or never). some stay the same for years collecting tons of virtual dust on ?news? from 2007?.
tonAtom doesn?t? we don?t put yellow stickies or stupid signs with construction workers on our site?. we do updates, even massive ones (ok, there are actually no massive ones) live and in-flight.
currently I am working on creating a definitive download source for all tonAtom releases, all freshly tagged, with convenient zip-file download (and including artwork).
and we will have online audio players on each release page as there is already for the brand new [tonAtom.106] xenoton-cantus. this is some substantial work to be done, but you can distinguish already updated pages by the more green-ish look.
if you are curious how all will look like, head over e.g. to 005 which has already been updated.
best
